Chapter 50.0

Zakat is forbidden for the messenger of Allah ﷺ and his family, and they are Banu Hashim and Banu Al-Muttalib, and no one else

‏ كِخْ كِخْ ارْمِ بِهَا أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّا لاَ نَأْكُلُ الصَّدَقَةَ ‏

English translation

Abu Huraira reported that Hasan b. 'Ali took one of The dates of the sadaqa and put it in his mouth, whereupon the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

Leave it, leave it, throw it; don't you know that we do not eat the sadaqa?

‏ أَنَّا لاَ، تَحِلُّ لَنَا الصَّدَقَةُ ‏

English translation

This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Shu'ba with the same chain of transmitters (and the words of the Prophet) are:

" Sadaqa is not permissible for us."

English translation

‏ إِنِّي لأَنْقَلِبُ إِلَى أَهْلِي فَأَجِدُ التَّمْرَةَ سَاقِطَةً عَلَى فِرَاشِي ثُمَّ أَرْفَعُهَا لآكُلَهَا ثُمَّ أَخْشَى أَنْ تَكُونَ صَدَقَةً فَأُلْقِيهَا ‏

English translation

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:

I go back to my family and I find a date lying on my bed. I then take it up to eat it, but then I throw it away fearing that it may be a Sadaqa.

‏ وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لأَنْقَلِبُ إِلَى أَهْلِي فَأَجِدُ التَّمْرَةَ سَاقِطَةً عَلَى فِرَاشِي - أَوْ فِي بَيْتِي - فَأَرْفَعُهَا لآكُلَهَا ثُمَّ أَخْشَى أَنْ تَكُونَ صَدَقَةً - أَوْ مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ - فَأُلْقِيهَا ‏

English translation

Out of so many ahadith which Hammam b. Munabbih narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) one is this that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

I go back to my family and I find a date lying on my bed or in my house, and I take it up to eat it, but then I throw it away fearing that it may be a Sadaqa or from Sadaqa.

English translation

Anas b. Malik reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) found a date in the street and said:

If it were not of sadaqa I would have eaten it.

‏ لَوْلاَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ لأَكَلْتُهَا ‏

English translation

Anas b. Malik reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) found a date lying on the path and said:

If it were not out of Sadaqa, I would have eaten it.

English translation

Anas b. Malik reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) found a date and said:

Were it not (that I fear) it may be part of sadaqa, I would have eaten it.
