Whenever there was drought, `Umar bin Al-Khattab used to ask Allah for rain through Al-`Abbas bin `Abdul Muttalib, saying, "O Allah! We used to request our Prophet (ﷺ) to ask You for rain, and You would give us. Now we request the uncle of our Prophet (ﷺ) to ask You for rain, so give us rain." And they would be given rain."
When they experienced drought 'Umar bin al-Khattab (RA) used to seek rain by asking al-'Abbas bin 'Abdul Muttalib (RA) to supplicate Allah for rain. He ('Umar) would say: 'O Allah, we used to ask our Prophet (RA) to supplicate to You for rain, and You would give us rain. We are now asking our Prophet's uncle to supplicate to You for rain, so give us rain." They would then be given rain. [Reported by al-Bukhari].
Anas said that when they experienced a drought ‘Umar b. al-Khattab prayed for rain by virtue of al-‘Abbas b. ‘Abd al-Muttalib, and said, "O God, we used to supplicate You by virtue of our prophet and You didst give us water. We are now supplicating You by virtue of our prophet’s uncle, so give us water.” He said that they were then given water. Bukhari transmitted it.
