أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ يَحْيَى، عَنْ وَاقِدٍ، عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنْ مَسْعُودِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، ‏:‏ أَنَّهُ ذُكِرَ الْقِيَامُ عَلَى الْجَنَازَةِ حَتَّى تُوضَعَ، فَقَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ‏:‏ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ثُمَّ قَعَدَ ‏.‏

English translation

It was narrated from 'Ali bin Abi Talib that:

mention was made of standing at the funeral until the body is placed in the grave. 'Ali bin Abi Talib said: "The Messenger of Allah stood, then he sat down."

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ مَسْعُودِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ ‏:‏ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَامَ فَقُمْنَا، وَرَأَيْنَاهُ قَعَدَ فَقَعَدْنَا ‏.‏

English translation

It was narrated from 'Ali bin Abi Talib that:

أَخْبَرَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنِ الْمِنْهَالِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ زَاذَانَ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ، قَالَ ‏:‏ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي جَنَازَةٍ، فَلَمَّا انْتَهَيْنَا إِلَى الْقَبْرِ وَلَمْ يُلْحَدْ، فَجَلَسَ وَجَلَسْنَا حَوْلَهُ كَأَنَّ عَلَى رُءُوسِنَا الطَّيْرَ ‏.‏

English translation

It was narrated that Al-Bark' said:

"We went out with the Messenger of Allah for a funeral, and when we reached the grave the Lahd had not yet been prepared. He sat, and we sat around him, as if there were birds on our heads."
