١٢٤٢ - (س) حريث بن ظهير الكوفي، قدم الشام في خلافة معاوية. ذكره ابن حبان في «جملة الثقات»، وقال: ثنا أبو خليفة، ثنا محمد بن كثير، ثنا سفيان، عن الأعمش، عن عمارة بن عمير، عن حريث بن ظهير قال: قال ابن مسعود: لا تسألوا أهل الكتاب عن شيء فإنهم لم يهدوكم وقد ضلوا. وخرج الحاكم حديثه في «صحيحه»، وكذلك أبو محمد الدارمي. وزعم بعض المتأخرين من المصنفين أنه لا يعرف، وصدق أنى له عرفانه مع إيثاره الراحة، ولا بد دون الشهد من إبر النحل، وكأنه اعتمدعلى كتاب شيخه إذ لم يعرف شيء من حاله، فأقدمه على قوله لا يعرف.
