٦٩٨٢ - ذ - محمد بن عبد الله الإِسْكَافي البغدادي، أبو جعفر، أحدُ متكلِّمي المعتزلة، قيل: مات سنة أربعين ومئتين.قلت: وأصله من سمرقند، وكان خياطًا، ثم أخذ الكلام عن جعفر بن حرب، وله مناظراتٌ مع الكَرَابيسي وغيره. قال النديمُ: كان عجيب الشأن، في العلم، والذكاء، والصِّيانة، ونُبْل الهِمَّة، والنزاهة، بلغ في مقدار عمره ما لم يبلغه أحد، وكان المعتصم يعظِّمه جدًّا، مات سنة أربعين ومئتين. وكان ابنُه جعفر كاتبًا بليغًا.
