الشيخ علي المعروف بالخياط الشافعي الأزهري الشيخ الإمام العمدة الهمام، الفقيه النبيه الفالح. حضر أشياخ الوقت وتفقه على الشيخ عيسى البراوي ولازم دروسه وبه تخرج، واشتهر بالعلم والصلاح، وأقرأ الدروس الفقهية والمعقولية وانتفع به الطلبة، وانقطع للعلم والإفادة. ولما وردت ولاية جده محمد باشا توسون طلب إنساناً معروفاً بالعلم والصلاح، فذكر له الشيخ المترجم، فدعاه إليه وأكرمه وواساه وأحبه وأخذه صحبته إلى الحجاز وتوفي هناك سنة ثماني عشرة ومائتين وألف.
