الشيخ علي بن حسين السقطي الدمشقي الصالحي العالم النجيب، والفاضل الأديب، زبدة ذوي الكمال، ونخبة أهل الصدق في الأقوال والأفعال، ولد بصالحية دمشق سنة ثمان وعشرين ومائتين وألف ونشأ بها، وقرأ على عمه العلامة الشيخ عبد الغني السقطي وعلى والدي المرحوم الشيخ حسن البيطار وعلى الشيخ عبد الرحمن الطيبي وعلى الشيخ سعيد الحلبي وعلى الملا أبو بكر الكردي. وكانت عليه خطابة العمرية والتدريس والإمامة، توفي سنة تسع وثمانين ومائتين وألف ودفن بقاسيون في مقبرة أسلافه.
