أبو محمد المعروف بابن صاحب الخمس فقيه متكلم أصولي، فاضل مشهور في موضعه. ذكره الميورقي، فقال: كان متكلمًا إمامًا في علم الأصول، نافذًا في علم الفروع، متورعًا عن الفتيا. قال: وهو أكبر من لقيت بصقلية. وكان شيخنا القاضي أبو القاسم عبد الرحمن بن محمد المعافري، قد لقيه بها. وكان يثني علي، وحدث عنه، وأخذ عنه.
