المسدد بن أحمد بن جعفر بن محمد بن أيوف بن محمد بن عبد الله ابن قيس بن سعيد بن عبادة بن دلامة بن الخزرج البصري. سمع من خاله أبي القاسم ابن الجلاب، وشرح كتابه المسمى بالتفريع. قال ابن الحصار: كان من أهل العلم والحظ الوافر من العلم. سمع بالعراق والبصرة، وبشيراز وغيرها. ومن شيوخه أبي علي السلمي، والقاضي أبي بكر الظهراني، وأبي بكر أحمد بن عبيد الله، يروي عنه الدلائي وغيره. ودخل المغرب، فاستوطن القيروان، وبها مات. واستجازه ابن الحصّار، وابنه أبو القاسم فأجازهما.
