    ذكر ورعه وزهده وفضله وكان مع علمه من أهل الزهد والتقشف والبر. طال هربه من السلطان الى أنشبه المقدار. نال رئاسة الدين والدنيا بالأندلس، فما استحال عن هدية ولا غرته الدنيا بوجه. قال ابن مفرّج: وكان قد بلغ به التقشف وطلب الحلال، إن كان يصيد السمك بنهر قرطبة. ويبيع صيده. فيأخذ من ثمنه ما يقتات به ويتصدق بفضله.
