حسن بن محمد القيسي، المعروف بابن البربا أبو علي أصله من جراوة من سبتة، متقدم في فقهائها؛ سمع من أبي جعفر الداوردي، وأخذ بسبتة عن يوسف بن أبي مسلم، وأبي محمد بن غالب؛ فقيه، حافظ، جزل؛ رأس في الفتيا في وقته، قائم على المذهب؛ يقوم على النوادر، متقدم في المسائل والأحكام والقضاء؛ وكان محمد بن العجوز يقول: إذا أخذ أبو علي المسألة، لم يترك فيها لاحد مقالا! وكان شديد المطالبة، وكانت له عند برغواطة مكانة، ولحقته بعد ذلك - عندهم - نفرة، أخرجه لها مع محمد بن غالب، وجماعة - إلى بادس مدة، ثم صرفهم (¬١).
