أبو الحسن التلباني اسمه على بن جعفر بن أحمد القاضي روى عن ابن أبي مطر. يروى عنه أبو الحسن القابسي، وأبو زيد بن أبي غافر الكتامى من أهل سبتة. وكان أحد مشيخة المالكيين بمصر ثم نزل جزيرة أقريطش. "قال أبو الوليد الباجي: هو فقيه معروف. قال الفرغاني: وكان أهل أقريطش" (¬٨٢٧) قد كتبوا إلى مصر يسألون أن يوجه إليهم من يفقههم ويتقلد حكمهم، فوقع الاتفاق عليه، فخرج إليها، وأقام بها إلى أن دخلها الروم واستحوذوا عليها، من سنة خمسين وثلاثمائة وملكوها إلى وقتنا هذا، ردها الله دار اسلام بمنه. * * *
