أحمد بن ابراهيم "بن حماد بن اسحاق بن اسماعيل بن حماد" أخوه، كنيته أبو عثمان، يروى عن أبيه، وأبي جعفر الطحاوى، وأبى بكر بن عبد العزيز العمرى، حدث عنه أبو محمد بن أبي زيد. وخلف أخاه على قضاء مصر، فوردها سنة أربع عشرة وثلاثمائة، فحكم قضاءها إلى آخر سنة ست عشرة، فعزل، وولى قضاءها بعد ذلك بين خلافة وقضاء "ست" (¬٨١٥) مرات. ***
