أحمد بن يوسف بن عابس المعافري (¬٧٩٤) أبو بكر، أصله من سرقسطة، وانتقل إلى وشقة، فسكنها إلى أن توفى بها. سمع بالأندلس كثيرا، ورحل فسمع من يحيى بن عمر، وأحمد ابن أبي سليمان، وعلى بن عبد العزيز، وغيرهم. وكان ذا فهم ونبل وتصرف في علم النحو واللغة، شاعرا مطبوعا، بصيرا بالمذهب والفرض والحساب والمساحة. توفى سنة ثمان، وقيل تسع، وتسعين ومائتين، وقيل بل سنة ثلاثمائة، وفيها مات ابنه محمد. وكان أبوه يوسف * يكنى بأبي عمر، مشهورا بالعلم والفضل، مقدما في موضعه عقلا وأدبا ومروءة، وله رحلة سمع فيها أيضا من يحيى بن عمر وغيره.
