    ٤٥٣ - تمييز: إسماعيل بن حماد بن النعمان بن زُوطا الكوفي. عن أبيه عن جده. قال ابن عدي: ثلاثتهم ضعفاء، وذكره الخطيب فقال: هو من كبار الفقاء، وقال محمد بن عبد الله الأنصاري: ما ولي القضاء من لدن عمر إلى اليوم أعلم من إسماعيل بن حماد، قيل: ولا الحسن البصري؟ فقال: ولا الحسن، قال أبو العيناء، دسَّ الأنصاري إنسانًا يسأل إسماعيل - لما ولي قضاء البصرة فقال: أبقى الله القاضي، رجلٌ قال لامرأته … فقطع عليه إسماعيل، وقال: قل للذي دسَّك: إنّ القُضاة لا تُفْتِي (¬١). وقال صالح جزرة: ليس بثقة. ذكره في الميزان (¬٢).
