[٦٦٤٤/ ٥٦٨٣]- (خت مق) محمد بن يحيى بن سعيد القطان - والقطانُ صفة ليحيى، كنية محمد: أبو صالح البصرى. عن: أبيه، وسفيان بن عيينة، ومعاذ بن معاذ، وجماعة. وعنه: أبناءه أحمد، وصالح، وعفان وهو أكبر منه، وأبو بكر الأعين، والذهلي، وعبد الله بن أحمد حنبل، والحسن بن سفيان، وأبو يعلى، وخلق. قال ابن حبان فى "الثقات": مات في رمضان سنة (٢٢٣) وكذا أرخه غيره، وقيل: مات سنة (٢٦). قال الحافظ الذهبي في "زياداته على التهذيب" قلت: هذا والذى قبله وهم في تاريخ موته فإن أبا يعلى، والحسن بن سفيان إنما دخلا البصرة فى حدود الثلاثين و (٢٠٠) وقد رأيت بعض العلماء أرخ موته سنة (٢٣٣) وهو أشبه انتهى.
