الملك الصالح نجم الدين أيوب بن الكامل أبي المعالي محمد - رحمهما الله تعالى - أيوب، الملك الصالح نجم الدين بن السلطان الملك الكامل محمد بن السلطانالملك العادل أبي بكر محمد بن أيوب، سلطان الديار المصرية، وآخر سلطان بني أيوب بمصر القائم بدولة الأتراك. ولد سنة ثلاث وستمائة بالقاهرة. ليس لذكره محل في تاريخنا؛ لأن وفاته في سنة سبع وأربعين وستمائة، ومبدأ تاريخنا هذا من سنة خمسين وستمائة، من أوائل دولة مملوكه المعز أيبك التركماني إلى يومنا هذا. وفي هذا المعنى يقول بعض الشعراء: الصالح المرتضى أيوب أكثر من ... ترك بدولته يا شر مجلوب لا، وآخذ الله أيوباً بفعلته ... فالناس كلهم في ضر أيوب
