يحيى بن سعيد بن أحمد بن يحيى بن الحديدي: من أهل طليطلة؛ يكنى: أبا بكر.سمع من أبي محمد بن عباس، وحماد بن عمار، والتبريزي وغيرهم. وناظر على أبي بكر بن مغيث، وكان نبيلا متفننا، فصيحا فطنا مقدما في الشورى، وكانت له مكانة عند المأمون يحيى بن ذي النون، وكان لا يقطع في شيء من أوامره إلا عن مشورته ودخل مع المأمون قرطبة إذ ملكها. وكان مستوليا على أمره فلما توفي المأمون استثقله حفيده القادر بالله حتى قتل بقصره ضحوة يوم الجمعة من المحرم سنة ثمان وستين وأربع مائة. ذكره ابن مطاهر.
