مفرج بن محمد بن مفرج بن حماد بن الحسن المعافري؛ يعرف: بالقبشي من أهل قرطبة؛ يكنى: أبا القاسم. روى عن أبيه. والقاضي محمد بن مفرج، وأبي إبراهيم، وعباس بن أصبغ وغيرهم. وهو من بيتة فضل وعلم. وتوفي بقرطبة سنة ستٍّ وأربع مائة، نقلت وفاته من خط أخيه الحسن بن زاد بن حيان. كانت وفاته يوم الجمعة منتصف ربيع الأول من العام.
