محمد بن عبد الغني بن عمر بن عبد الله بن فندلة. كذا قرأت نسبه بخطه: من أهل إشبيلية، وأصله من مارتلة؛ يكنى: أبا بكر.صحب أبا الحجاج الأعلم كثيرا واختص به، وأخذ عن أبي محمد بن خزرج، وأبي مروان بن سراج وغيرهم. وذكر أنه سمع من أبي عبد الله محمد بن عتاب الفقيه بقرطبة كتبا ذكرها ويبعد ما ذكره من ذلك والله أعلم. وكان أديبا، لغويا، شاعرا، فصيحا وقد أخذ عنه، وتوفي في عقب شوال من سنة ثلاثٍ وثلاثين وخمسمائة. ومولده في جمادى الأولى سنة أربع وأربعين وأربع مائة.
