محمد بن أحمد بن مبارك؛ يعرف: بالقطان من أهل قرطبة؛ يكنى: أبا عبد الله. سمع: من أبي علي الغساني، وأبي الحسن العبسي صغيرا، وسمع من جماعة كثيرة من شيوخنا. ورحل إلى إشبيلية، وسمع من أبي عبد الله أحمد بن الخولاني الموطأ. وسمع بالمرية من أبي الحسن بن شفيع وغيره، وكان مختصا بالقراءة على الشيوخ لمعرفته ونباهته وحسن قراءته. وكان فاضلا دينا متواضعا، حسن الخط. عني بالحديث وروايته، وشهر به. وكان بارا؛ بأصحابه وإخوانه. وكان شيوخنا يعظمونه ويكرمونه. وتوفي ﵀ سنة خمس عشرة وخمسمائة. ودفن بمقبرة أم سلمة وصلى عليه أبوه.
