محمد بن يوسف بن أحمد بن معاذ الجهني: من أهل قرطبة؛ يكنى: أبا عبد الله. أخذ القراءة عرضا عن عبد الجبار بن أحمد المقرئ. قال أبو عمرو: وعرض الحروف السبعة علي وعلى سليمان بن هشام بن وليد صاحب أبي الطيب ابن غلبون. وكان حافظا، ضابطا، معه نصيب من العربية، ومن الفرض والحساب. وسمع: من أبي عبد الله بن أبي زمنين، ومن أبي القاسم عبد الرحمن بن عبد الله بن خالد، وسكن مصر خمسة أعوام من أول سنة ثلاثٍ وأربع مائة إلى سنة سبعٍ وأربع مائة. وكان مولده سنة تسع وسبعين وثلاث مائة.
