علي بن عبد الرحمن بن مهدي التنوخي من أهل إشبيلية؛ يكنى: أبا الحسن. يعرف بابن الأخضر. كان: من أهل المعرفة باللغة والآداب، حافظا لهما، مقدما في معرفتهما وإتقانهما. روى ذلك عن أبي الحجاج يوسف بن عيسى الأعلم وعليه عول، وأخذ أيضا عن أبي علي الغساني وغيره. أخذ عنه جماعة أصحابنا ووثقوه وأثنوا عليه ووصفوه بالمعرفة واليقظة والذكاء والدين والفضل. توفي في منسلخ سنة أربع عشرة وخمسمائة.
