شيخ آخر: هو أبو سعد، يحيى بن طاهر بن الحسين بن علي بن الحسين، السمان، الرازي، من أهل الري. شيخ سديد السيرة. يعلم الصبيان بباب زامهران. وكان ممن يميل إلى التشيع والاعتزال، وله نسب عريق في ذلك. سمع عمه إمام المعتزلة أبا سعد إسماعيل بن علي بن الحسين السمان الحافظ،والكيا أبا الحسين يحيى بن الحسين بن إسماعيل الشجري الحسيني الحافظ، وغيرهما. كتبت عنه بالري منتخبًا من المائتي مجلس لعمه، ومجلسين من أمالي الكيا يحيى الحافظ. وكانت ولادته في جمادى الآخرة، سنة ثلاث وستين وأربع مائة بالري. وتوفي بها بعد سنة سبع وثلاثين وخمس مائة، فإني كتبت عنه في شهر ربيع الآخر.
