هو أبو المفضل، مكرم بن حمزة بن محمد بن أبي جميل، القرشي، من أهل دمشق. سمع أبا طاهر محمد بن الحسين بن محمد بن إبراهيم الحنائي، وأبا الحسن علي بن الحسن بن الحسين الموازيني السلمي الدمشقيين. سمعت منه قدر ورقتين من حديث أبي بكر يوسف بن القاسم الميانجي بروايته عن شيخيه، عن أبي الحسين محمد بن أبي نصر التميمي، عنه. وكانت ولادته قبل سنة خمس مائة، بدمشق. ووفاته بها ليلة الثلاثاء الثالث من شهر. . .، سنة خمس وأربعين وخمس مائة، ودفن بمقبرة باب الصغير.
