شيخ آخر: هو أبو سعد، مسعود بن المظفر بن محمد بن سعيد بن الحسين، القايني، ثم المروزي، أصله من قاين. وهو ولد بمرو، ونشأ وسكن سارية مازندران.تفقه بمرو على القاضي أبي محمد عبد الرحمن بن عبد الرحيم، وخالط العلماء وخدمهم. وكان فاضلًا، طريف الجملة والتفصيل. وكان يتردد كثيرًا بمرو إلى والدي، ولما دخلت سارية صادفته بها، وكان يتردد إلي ويؤنسني بلقائه ومحاورته، ولم يتفق أن سمعت منه شيئًا من الحديث؛ لأن أصوله لم تكن معه، وحكى لي منامًا رآه، ولم أسمع منه سوى ذلك المنام. وتوفي بها ما بين سنة خمس وأربعين، وسنة خمسين وخمس مائة.
