شيخ آخر: هو أبو القاسم، محمود بن عبد الله بن يحيى بن أبي ثابت، الفارسي، من أهل هراة. كان يتصل بالقضاة، وله جلادة، وكفاية في الأمور. لقيته بمرو وقت رجوعي من العراق، وكان الأمير العميد مودود ﵀ ارتبطه عنده بمرو مدة، وكان يكرمه ويدنيه. سمع القاضي أبا العلاء صاعد بن سيار بن يحيى الهروي. كتبت عنه حديثًا واحدًا، ولم يكن له أصل بما سمع، فقرأت عليه الحديث الواحد الذي في نسخة صاحبنا أبي القاسم علي بن الحسن الدمشقي الحافظ، وانصرف إلى بلده، ومن ثم خرج إلى سجستان. وتوفي بها يوم الاثنين الثالث من شعبان، سنة خمسين وخمس مائة.
