شيخ آخر: هو أبو علي، محمد بن علي بن أحمد بن الحارثان، السرخسي، من أهل سرخس. كان فاضلًا، عالمًا باللغة، والأدب، والنحو. وسمعت أنه كان يرى رأي الأوائل، ويقرأ الفلسفة والعلوم المهجورة، ولكنه كان ساكنًا وقورًا، معرضًا عن الناس.لقيته أولا بسرخس، وكتبت عنه أقطاعًا من الشعر له ولغيره، ثم لقيته بمرو، وتوفي بسرخس في أحد الربيعين من سنة خمس وأربعين وخمس مائة.
