شيخ آخر: هو أبو جعفر، محمد بن الخليل بن أبي بكر بن أبي جعفر، السلال، الطبري، الآملي من أهل آمل، طبرستان المعرف بمدكا. كان فقيهًا فاضلا، حسن السيرة، صاحب ثروة ومال. تفقه على والدي ﵀ مدة، ثم ترك مخالطة الفقهاء، وسكن ما بين التجار. سمع أبا علي نصر الله بن أحمد الخشنامي، وأبا حامد أحمد بن علي بن محمد بن عبدوس، وأبا العلاء صاعد بن سيار الحافظ الهروي، وأبا سعيد إسماعيل بن عمرو البحيري، وغيرهم. كتبت عنه شيئًا يسيرًا بمرو، وقرأت عليه أحاديث من كتاب مسند الشافعي قبل خروجي إلى الرحلة.وكانت ولادته بعد السبعين وأربع مائة. وتوفي بمرو في اليوم الثاني من شهر ربيع الآخر، سنة سبع وثلاثين وخمس مائة.
