شيخ آخر: هو أبو الحسن علي بن محمد بن أبي الحسن وقيل الحسن الجوهري الصائغ من أهل مرو. شيخ صائن، صالح، من أهل مرو من أهل الصدق والخير. كان مع الإمام والدي بنيسابور، وسمع معه الحديث من: أبي الحسن علي بن أحمد المديني، وأبي سعيد الرحيم بن عبد الكريم القشيري، وأبي العباس الفضل بن عبد الواحد التاجر، وغيرهم. قرأت عليه قبل خروجي إلى الرحلة، ولما رجعت من الرحلة كان في الأحياء، وظني أنه مات في سنة أربعين وخمس مائة.
