شيخ آخر: هو أبو الحسن علي بن عبد الرحمن بن محمد بن عبد الرحمن المزكي الشروطي المعروف بالحافظ من أهل نيسابور.كان أحد المعدلين، من أهل التمييز والحديث، وإنما قيل له الحافظ، فيما أظن، لأنه كان يحفظ خريطة القاضي. سمع: أبا بكر محمد بن القاسم بن حبيب بن عبدوس الصفار، وأبا سعد عبد الرحمن بن منصور بن رامش الغازي، وجده لأمه أبا الحسن الناصحي، وغيرهم. وكانت ولادته في حدود سنة خمسين وأربع مائة. وتوفي بنيسابور ليلة الأحد أو يوم الأحد الثالث والعشرين من شهر ربيع الآخر، سنة أربع وثلاثين وخمس مائة. ودفن بمقبرة الحيرة.
