شيخ آخر: هو أبو سعد عمر بن علي بن سهل الدامغاني المعروف بالسلطان من أهل الدامغان، سكن نيسابور. كان إماما مناظرا، فحلا، وواعظا مليح الوعظ. تفقه على الإمام أحمد بن محمد الخوافي، وبرع في الفقه. وكان حسن الباطن والظاهر، فقيها مناظرا، واعظا، مذاكرا أصوليا، لطيف الطبع، رقيق القلب، سريع الدمع عند الذكر. سمع: أبا بكر أحمد بن علي بن خلف الشيرازي، وأبا محمد الحسن بن أحمد بن محمد السمرقندي الحافظ، وأبا الحسن أحمد بن محمد بن إسماعيل الشجاعي، وغيرهم.سمعت منه بنيسابور شيئا يسيرا، ونقلت سماعه بالدامغان في أحاديث، فسمعت منه بعد الرجوع من الرحلة إلى مرو. وكانت ولادته. . . . .
