شيخ آخر: هو أبو المظفر عبد الوهاب بن محمد بن منصور بن محمد بن عبد الجبار بن أحمد بن محمد بن جعفر السمعاني أخي الأكبر سمعه والده الحديث بنيسابور وإياي، وكذلك بسرخس، واشتغل بالأدب وقرأ أصوله، واخترمته المنية قبل البلوغ. سمع بنيسابور: أبا بكر عبد الغفار بن محمد بن الشيروي، وأبا العلاء عبيد بن محمد بن عبيد القشيري، وبمرو: أبا منصور محمد بن علي بن محمود الكراعي، وغيرهم. سمعت منه شيئا يسيرا من الشعر. توفي ضحوة يوم الخميس سلخ ذي الحجة، سنة سبع عشرة وخمس مائة، ودفن يوم الجمعة أول يوم من المحرم، سنة ثمان. وكانت ولادته في السابع والعشرين من المحرم، سنة خمس وخمس مائة.>
