أبو بكر عبد الواسع بن عبد الجامع بن عمر بن الربيع الجبلي البرزيني الهروي من أهل هراة. كان من مشاهير الفضلاء بخراسان، وكان لطيف الطبع، رقيق الشعر باللسانين، حسن النظم والنثر. سمع: أبا سهل نجيب بن ميمون بن سهل الواسطي، وأبا عبد الله الحسين بن محمد الكتبي، وغيرهما. سمعت منه بهراة. وكانت ولادته في حدود سنة ثمانين وأربع مائة بهراة فيما أظن. ووفاته بها ضحوة يوم الأحد الخامس من شهر ربيع الآخر، سنة خمس وأربعين وخمس مائة.
