شيخ آخر: هو أبو الوفاء سعد بن المعتز بن الفضل بن محمد بن سعيد بن محمد الإسفراييني من أهل إسفرايين. كان من مشاهير الشيوخ بها، ومن وجوه البلد، وأخوه الحسن بن المعتز أكبر سنًا منه. سمع: الرئيس أبا الحسن محمد بن الحسين بن محمد بن طلحة المهرجاني. كتبت عنه بإسفرايين سنة سبع وثلاثين، ثم قدم مرو سنة اثنتين وخمسين، وكتبت عنه أيضًا، فحصل لي عنه أحاديث يسيرة من كتاب المسند للشافعي، بروايته عن ابن طلحة، عن الحيري، عن الأصم، عن الربيع، عنه. وسألته عن ولادته، فقال: ولدت بإسفرايين في الحادي والعشرين من شهر رمضان، سنة ثمان وسبعين وأربع مائة. وتوفي. . . . .
