أبو حفص خمارتاش بن عبد الله الكاغذي الرومي المسمى عمر كان شيخًا صالحًا، له دكان برأس المربعة بنيسابور، يبيع فيه الكاغذ، ويجتمع في دكانه الفضلاء. سمع: أبا المظفر موسى بن عمران الأنصاري، وأبا بكر محمد بن إسماعيل التفليسي، وأبا نصر محمد بن سهل بن أبي سهل السراج، وأبا علي الحسن بن علي بن عبدويه، وغيرهم. كتبت عنه بنيسابور، وقرأت عليه الجزء الثالث والعشرين من الفوائد التي انتقاها الحاكم أبو عبد الله على السيد أبي الحسن الحسني، بروايته عن موسى بن عمران، عنه. وكانت وفاته سنة نيف، وقيل: سنة ثمان، وبعد سنة إحدى وثلاثين وخمس مائة بنيسابور.
