٢٠٧٠ ـ على بن عبد الله بن عثمان العسقلانى المكى، يكنى أبا الحسن، ويلقّب شهاب الدين: توفى يوم السبت السّادس والعشرين من شعبان، سنة إحدى وتسعين وخمسمائة، ودفن بالمعلاة. ومن حجر قبره لخّصت هذا، وفيه مكتوب: هذا قبر الشاب شهاب الدين، وفيه [من البسيط]: إن العزا بشهاب الدين قد منعت ... منه القلوب وقد أودى بها التلف نشو تكامل فيه الظرف واجتمعت ... فيه شمائل لا تنفك تأتلف ومنظر مخجل للشمس إن طلعت ... يا ليته لم يكن بالبين ينكسف إذا بدا ناطقا فى وسط محتفل ... فالدر منتظم والشهد مقتطف محاسن نظم الإجماع صحتها ... كالؤلؤ انتقبت عن حسنه الصدق
