٥٩٤ ـ أحمد بن على بن أحمد العلبى، أبو بكر الزاهد: صحب القاضى أبا يعلى بن الفراء، وقرأ عليه طرفا فى الفقه، وسمع عليه الحديث، وحدث باليسير. روى عنه الحافظ أبو الفضل بن ناصر وغيره. وكان مشهورا بالورع والزهد والعبادة والانقطاع عن الخلق والإقبال على الحق. وتوفى يوم الأربعاء تاسع ذى الحجة سنة ثلاث وخمسمائة بعرفة محرما وصلى عليه أهل الموقف، وحمل إلى مكة وصلى عليه بها فى المقام يوم النحر، ودفن بالمعلاة عند الفضيل بن عياض. وذكر أنه كان إذا حج زار القبور بمكة، ويجئ إلى عند الفضيل، ويخط بعصاه الأرض، ويقول: يارب هاهنا، يارب هاهنا، فاستجاب الله دعوته. لخصت هذه الترجمة من تاريخ ابن النجار.
