"الجرح والتعديل" 7/ 199. قال: أبو طالب: سألت أحمد بن حنبل عن محمد بن أبان؛ فقال: كان يقول بالإرجاء، وكان رئيسًا من رؤسائهم، فترك الناس حديثه من أجل ذلك، وكان من أصحاب محمد بن الحسن يكثرون عنه، وكان كوفيًّا جعفيًّا.
