الوافي بالوفيات" للصفدي (ت ٧٦٤ هـ). هو تراجم للرواة، ابتدأها بسيرة النبي ﷺ، ثم بمن اسمه محمد، بادئًا بمن اسم أبيه محمد، ثم باقي الرواة على حرف المعجم. وترجم للإمام أحمد (٦/ ٣٦٣ - ٣٦٩)، ذكر نسبه، ومولده، وبعض شيوخه، ومن رووا عنه، وتكلم عن المحنة، منذ بدايتها على يد المأمون، حتى انقضت أيام المتوكل، ثم تكلم عن وفاته، وذكر رواية الوركاني أنه أسلم يوم موت أحمد عشرون ألفًا من اليهود، والنصارى، والمجوس. وقال: وهي حكاية منكرة. ثم ختم الترجمة بذكر بعض الكتب التي صُنفت في ترجمة الإمام أحمد. - "
