تهذيب الكمال في أسماء الرجال" للمزي (ت ٧٤٢ هـ). هو تهذيب لكتاب "الكمال في أسماء الرجال" للحافظ عبد الغني المقدسي، الذي صنفه في معرفة أحوال رواة الكتب الستة. أضاف إليه المزي أسماء رجال المصنفات الأخرى لأصحاب الكتب الستة،ورتب الجميع على ترتيب حروف المعجم، إلا أنه ابتدأ في حرف الألف بمن اسمه أحمد، وفي حرف الميم بمن اسمه محمد. وترجم للإمام أحمد ترجمة مطولة (١/ ٤٣٧ - ٤٧٠)، ذكر فيها من روى عنهم، ومن رووا عنه، وذكر عدة روايات في مناقب الإمام أحمد، ولم يطل الكلام عن المحنة، وإنما أشار إليها ببعض الروايات، ثم ختم الترجمة بالحديث عن وفاته، وما كان في جنازته، وما رؤي له من المنامات. - "
