الثقات" لابن حبان (ت ٣٥٤ هـ). ترجم فيه للرواة الموثقين عنده، مرتبين على الطبقات، فذكر الإمام أحمد فيمَن روى عن أتباع التابعين (٨/ ١٨ - ١٩). قال عنه: وكان حافظًا متقنا ورعًا فقيهًا، لازمًا للورع الخفي، مواظبًا على العبادة الدائمة، به أغاث اللَّه جل وعلا أمة محمد ﷺ، وذاك أنه ثبت في المحنة وبذل نفسه للَّه ﷿، حتى ضُرب بالسياط للقتل، فعصمه اللَّه عن الكفر، وجعله علمًا يُقتدى به وملجأً يلتجأ إليه. اهـ.- "
