التاريخ الأوسط" للبخاري. طُبع باسم "التاريخ الصغير" تحقيق محمود زايد، ثم طُبع على الصواب بتحقيق محمد اللحيدان، نشر دار الصميعي. ومنهج البخاري في هذا الكتاب أن يترجم للرواة مرتبين حسب سنة الوفاة، وقد ترجم للإمام أحمد ترجمة مختصرة (٢/ ٣٧٥ ط. زايد. ٢/ ٢٦٣ - ٢٦٤ ط. اللحيدان)، اقتصر فيها على ذكر نسبه، وسنة وفاته، ولم يتعرض فيها لذكر شيء من المحنة سوى قوله: لما ضرب أحمد كنا بالبصرة، فسمعت أبا الوليد يقول: لو كان هذا في بني إسرائيل، كان أحدوثة.- "
