    ١٨٧ - محمد بن إسماعيل الترمذي (ت ٢٨٠ هـ) محمد بن إسماعيل بن يوسف السلمي، أبو إسماعيل الترمذي، نزيل بغداد. روى عن: أبي نعيم الفضل، والحسن بن سوار، وإسحاق بن محمد الفروي. وروى عنه: الترمذي، والنسائي، وابن أبي الدنيا، وموسى بن هارون. قال الخطيب: كان فهما متقنا، مشهورا بمذهب السنة، وسكن بغداد وحدث بها. وذكره أبو بكر الخلال فقال: صاحبنا وقد سمعنا منه حديثا كثيرًا، وكان عنده عن أبي عبد اللَّه مسائل صالحة حسان، وفيها ما أغرب به على أصحاب أبي عبد اللَّه، وهو رجل معروف ثقة، كثير العلم يتفقه. مات في شهر رمضان سنة ثمانين ومائتين ودفن عند قبر أحمد بن حنبل (٢).
