    [٦٧٦] محمد بن أبي الزين القيرواني، أبو الطيب المغربي المالكي. قدم مصر سنة سبع وتسعين فنزل جامع مصر، ولازمنا مدّة، وفيه يقظة ونباهة وسمع معنا وحج. ٩٩/م- فسمع من إبراهيم بن فرحون من "الشفا" بسماعه من الزبير بن علي الأسواني. وحج في سنة خمس وثماني مائة. ثم خرج متوجهاً إلى اليمن فغرق بالقرب من مدينة حلي في صفر سنة ست وثماني مائة، وأظنه لم يكمل الثلاثين.أنشدني أبيات لسان الدين ابن الخطيب التي قالها عند موته. وحدثني بحديث من "الشّفَا" ونحن بالمَرْج ظاهر القاهرة.
