٢٩٦٤ - أبو الحسن علي بن أحمد بن حسين بن مَحْمُويه [اليَزْدي] المقرئ الفقيه الشافعي (٥)، المتوفى في رجب سنة إحدى وخمسين وخمسمائة. تفقه على فخر الإسلام الشّاشي، وبواسط القاضي أبي علي الفارقي، وسمع وصنّف كثيرًا فقهًا وحديثًا وزهدًا. وكان من الفقهاء والمتعبدين، وكان له عمامة وقميص بينه وبين أخيه إذا خرج ذاك قعد هذا في البيت وبالعكس، ودخل إليه زائر فوجده عريانًا، فقال: نحن إذا غسلنا ثيابنا نكون كما قال القاضي أبو الطّيب الطّبري: قوم إذا غسلوا ثيابَ جمالهم ... لبسوا البُيوتَ إلى فراغِ الغاسلِ ذكره السبكي.
