١٩٢٥ - الإمام الحافظ أبو داود سليمان بن أشعث بن إسحاق بن بشير بن شدّاد بن عمرو بن عمران الأزدي السِّجِسْتاني (١)، مصنّف "السنن" المتوفى بالبصرة في شوال سنة ٢٧٥ خمس وسبعين ومائتين وله من العمر ثلاث وتسعون سنة. قال: كتبت عن رسول الله ﷺ خمسمائة ألف حديث انتخبت ما ضمنته هذا الكتاب أربعة آلاف حديث وثمانمائة حديث ويكفي الإنسان لدينه من ذلك أربعة أحاديث (٢). قال السبكي: كان أحد الحفاظ الجَهابذة الذين يعتمد عليهم ويرجع إليهم. سمع القَعْنبي وسليمان بن حرب وقُتيبة وخلائق. روى عنه الترمذي والنسائيُّ وابنه أبو بكر وطائفة. وفضائله ومناقبه كثيرة. انتهى.
