١٦٨١ - إمام أهل الظَّاهر أبو سليمان داود بن علي بن خَلَف الأصبهاني (٥)، أحد أئمة المسلمين، المتوفى في رمضان سنة سبعين ومائتين، عن ثمان وستين سنة. سمع القعنبي [عمرو بن مرزوق] ومسدّداً وأبا ثور وسليمان بن حرب ورحل إلى إسحق بن راهويه إلى نيسابور فسمع منه "المسند" و"التفسير". وكان إماماً ورعاً، ناسكاً، زاهداً.روى عنه ابنه محمد وزكريا الساجي وكان من المتعصبين للشافعي. صنف كتابين في فضائله. قال الشيخ [أبو إسحق الشيرازي (١)]: وانتهت إليه رياسة العلم ببغداد وأصله من أصبهان ومولده بالكوفة ومنشأه وقبره ببغداد.
