١٦٤٥ - خليفة بن خَيَّاط [العُصْفُري البصري، أبو عمرو، الملقب بشَبَاب، الإمام العلاَّمة المؤرخ (١)، المتوفى سنة ٢٤٠، سمع يزيد بن زريع وزياد بن عبد الله البكائي وسفيان بن عُيينة وغيرهم. وسمع منه البخاري وبقي بن مخلد وحرب الكرماني وعبد الله بن عبد الرحمن الدارمي وأبو بكر بن أبي عاصم وغيرهم. وكان حافظاً عارفاً بالتواريخ وأيام الناس. وقامت شهرته على كتابيه "الطبقات" (٢) و"التاريخ" (٣)].
