١٢٣٧ - جقمق [سيف الدين أبو سعيد، الملك الظاهر (٥)، من سلاطين المماليك بويع له بالسلطنة بعد خُشْقَدَم وعين المراتب ورتب المناصب وأعطى كل واحد من المماليك مائة دينار .... وفي سنة ٨٥٧ توعك الظاهر من حصار البول فاشتد مرضه فدعى الأعيان فأشهدهم على خلع نفسه وفوض إليهم الأمر فأثنوا على ولده عثمان فبايعوه وتوفي الظاهر في ثالث صفر بين العشاءين وصلى عليه الخليفة ولم يقع اضطراب ولا حركة لسلطنة ولده في حياته، وكان على جانب عظيم من الديانة والفقه والشجاعة ومحبته العلماء وله خيرات كثيرة بالقدس وغيرها. وكان فصيحا متفقها وكانت مدته أربع عشرة سنة وسنة نحو الثمانين].
